Who is the world's hottest woman this month?

To be fair she's been pretty hot for quite some time, but GQ (www.gq.com) have just done a photoshoot and interview with January Jones.

January who you ask? Well you may know her better as Mrs Donald Draper in AMC's Emmy and Golden Globe-winnning series Mad Men. (Mad Men) But you've also seen her in The Boat That Rocked, Love Actually and American Wedding.

January is most proud of her part in the 2005 film; The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, directed by Tommy Lee Jones, won him Best Actor at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival, and Best Screenplay as well.

In 2009, January was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Series Drama for Mad Men but lost to Anna Paquin for True Blood and she won the Actor award at the Screen Actors Guild for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series for Mad Men.

Is she hot? See for yourself...

How to write a better love letter!

Whenever I send someone a card, regardless of the occasion, I generally write a few sentences to let them know that I think/care/appreciate them more than if I simply signed my name. I feel the small amount of time it takes to write something, and the individual nature of my message, has so much more meaning to the person getting the card.

In an age of email, e-cards, e-commerce, instant gratification and too little time tending our emotional needs and spiritual health, it comes as no surprise that the art of the love letter appears to have been lost. Well, if not lost, buried in the rush for ever faster, more casual, more physical ways of demonstrating our love.

The American artist, Georgia O'Keefe whilst playing a major part in bringing her American art style to Europe in the 20's, specialised in crisp, contoured forms, with subtle tonal variations of colour, many of which have a distinctly sensual appearance. O'Keefe was also a gifted writer.

Her lover, married-at-the-time photographer and promoter of modern art, Alfred Stieglitz, was the recipient of many of O'Keefe's letters, which have just been published as part of a new exhibit at the Whitney Museum of American Art.

O'Keefe and Stieglitz married eventually. Her art has generally been overlooked, but her letters demonstrate what we can achive when we don't let Hallmark do our dirty work for us!

From York Beach, Maine - May 1922
…Dearest I love you.
I am on my back – waiting to be spread wide apart – waiting for you
to die with the sense of you – the pleasure of you – the sensuousness of you touching the sensuousness of me – all my body – all of me is waiting for you to touch the center of me with the center of you –
…When I feel how your touching my body –getting into my body – has given all of me to you – all of you to me as much as one human being can get into and feel another of another – I wonder if there is any difference in body – and spirit – and soul and mind – aren’t they all one and the same thing --
…Its my body that wants you and it seems to be the only thought or desire that I have – it even seems to be my only memory of you – two bodies that have fused – have touched with completeness at both ends making a complete circuit – making them one – a circle that nothing can break – you have given me – the circle of the most painfully intense pleasure –
…Im in such a state that I could write about this all day –

The one film every woman should see...

I make no apologies for posting this video, nor for the fact that it's something like three years old now.

Although there is more awareness now than ever before, the fashion industry continues to visualise women as un-realistic, alien, digital perfection, rather than the natural, feminine beauties that we should feel proud to be.

Now as a bit of a geek, I can totally relate to the Photoshop skill and technology that can transform an image of a woman into something totally false, despite it being close enough to reality to deceive the eye of most onlookers. The problem of course is that, women, especially young women, tend to aspire to these simply unatainable paragons of beauty.

So I have to applaud the ongoing efforts of the Dove cosmetics brand to campaign so vigorously to raise the self esteem and body awareness of women, especially young women. And that on a world wide basis.

Vist the Dove site in your country by following this link: www.dove.com

And their Campaign for Real Beauty in the UK here: www.campaignforrealbeauty.co.uk

Of course, there is a commercial aspect to the Dove campaign but I do think this is an excellent example of how corporate considerations can dove tail (no pun intended) with the requirements of society as a whole and women in particular.

I am NOT advocating how the fashion industry should change, although I would have thought any industry so dependent on women customers, would want to reduce the negative publicity that size zero models and unrealistic expectations, tend to generate.

Hopefully, there are many, many more women out there who will want to reward Dove for its initiative, and encourage other fashion/cosmetic brands to start taking their responsibilities to their customers more seriously.

A born again virgin? Six times!!!

Natalia got married at 24 and the world being the way it is, she was not a virgin at the time.

Her husband eventually confessed that he was a bit disappointed about her losing her virginity to another man and Natalia decided to make things up to him.

To celebrate their first wedding anniversary, Natalia went to a plastic surgeon and had her hymen repaired - otherwise known as a hymenoplasty, but also called vaginoplasty. Yes, you guessed if you din't know before, this is a surgical procedure that re-attaches the hymen and gives a woman’s vagina the appearance of never having had sex before.

Hubby was so ecstatic about the result that a year later Natalia went back a year later to repeat the procedure. And the year after that. And the year after that. And the year after that.

When Natalia turned up for her sixth revirgination, the surgeons warned her that continuing the procedure might present a danger to her health. No matter, Natalia signed a waiver and went ahead for her virgin re-birth for the sixth time.

Now leaving aside the fact that some cultures prize a true virgin bride above all else, and the fact that it might be seen as subscribing to the idea that a virgin bride is more valuable as a woman; why on earth, would anyone want to undergo this surgical procedure once, let alone six times!
